What you'll be doing
The Assistant DC Manager is responsible for supporting the Distribution Center Manager in overseeing daily operations, ensuring smooth workflow, and optimizing inventory management. This role requires strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting. The position also requires flexibility to work night shifts as needed to maintain operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Order Fulfillment Management
- Supervision of Order Processing: Overseeing the picking, packing, and shipping processes to ensure that customer orders are filled accurately and efficiently.
- Timely Dispatch: Ensuring that all orders are processed and shipped within the designated timeframes to meet delivery deadlines.
2. Inventory Control
- Stock Accuracy: Ensuring the correct inventory is available for fulfilling orders, and maintaining accurate inventory levels to avoid stockouts or overstock situations.
3. Team Management
- Staff Supervision: Managing outbound teams, including pickers, packers, and loaders, to ensure that they are working efficiently and safely.
- Training and Development: Providing ongoing training to team members on operational procedures, safety protocols, and the use of warehouse management systems (WMS).
- Motivation & Performance: Monitoring team performance, providing feedback, and implementing strategies to improve productivity and morale.
4. Operational Efficiency
- Process Improvement: Analyzing workflows and identifying areas for process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve overall productivity.
- Technology Integration: Implementing and maintaining warehouse management systems (WMS) or other software to streamline operations and ensure real-time tracking of orders.
5. Safety and Compliance
- Workplace Safety: Ensuring that all outbound operations adhere to safety standards and that the team follows proper safety protocols when handling goods, operating machinery, and preparing shipments.
- Compliance: Ensuring compliance with regulations regarding shipping, labor laws, and industry standards.
6. Customer Satisfaction
- Quality Control: Ensuring that products are picked and packed to meet the highest quality standards, minimizing errors and damage during transit.
- Customer Communication: Addressing any shipping-related customer inquiries or complaints, resolving issues efficiently to maintain customer satisfaction.
7. Coordination with Other Departments
- Collaboration with Inbound Teams: Communicating and working closely with inbound and inventory management teams to ensure smooth coordination between receiving goods and shipping them out.
- Coordination with Transportation: Liaising with the transportation department or carriers to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods.
8. Reporting and Documentation
- Performance Metrics: Tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) such as order accuracy, shipping time, labor efficiency, and on-time delivery rates.
- Reporting: Preparing regular reports on outbound operations and providing insights to upper management on performance, challenges, and areas of improvement.
9. Cost Management
- Cost Optimization: Identifying cost-saving opportunities in shipping, packaging, and labor usage to improve overall profitability.
10. Problem Solving and Escalation
- Issue Resolution: Addressing any operational issues that arise, such as shipping delays, inventory shortages, or damaged goods, and resolving them quickly to minimize impact on customers.
- Escalation Management: Handling and escalating more complex problems or delays to higher management if necessary.
What you’ll need to succeed
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Proven experience in warehouse or distribution center operations.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis, pivot tables, and reporting.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in warehouse operations.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Availability to work night shifts as needed.
Work Environment:
- Warehouse setting with occasional office work.
- Requires physical activity, including lifting and standing for extended periods.
- Night shift availability required to meet operational demands.
This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, analytical, and proactive professional who is comfortable working night shifts and leveraging Excel for data-driven decision-making.
